WELCOME HOME. We have had the pleasure of giving another welcome home to one of our soldiers, and as this is the third in about three weeks, it makes us realise that our boys are actually coming home at last. On Monday evening the local hall was filled by friends of Pte. Allan Howard, who returned on Wednesday last after about six months' absence from home. Pte. Howard was most anxious to enlist with his three brothers at the beginning of the war, but this was impossible at the time, and after waiting, (not very patiently, it is said), until his chance came to leave home, he at once en-listed but was too late to make short work of the Germans, as he intended doing. He was on his way to England when the armistice was signed, but did not have altogether a rosy time as he was unfortunate enough to catch the dreaded pneumonic influenza which was raging at the time. Although seriously ill for sometime we are glad to see our young friend amongst as again and looking so well. He was accompanied on Monday evening by quite a band of returned men who happened to be in the town, and it was a pleasure to see seven others besides him on the platform, who had done their part in the great struggle which has raged for over four years. Cr. H P. Mur-ray J.P., took the chair, and was supported by Messrs E. S. Bates, S. F. Neave, L. E. Clark, Dowsett, and J. M. Grimshaw. A pleasant evening was spent with dancing, supper, and musical items by Mrs Krieger and Mr Grimshaw. The Rev. S. Turton-Longman acted as pianist.
