Jerry Guirguis & Janet Francis interview Matthew Robertson - Musical Director, Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club on 96.5FM – Downtown radio show [ Tuesday 3rd July 2012 ].

8:15pm – Our 2nd special guest tonight is the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club ;

The Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club releases its latest CD, Of an island, with stunning arrangements of fiddle music from Scotland and islands associated with the Scottish fiddle traditions, including live takes from the group's recent collaborations with some of the world's greatest Scottish fiddlers. Building on the success of its previous CD, the award-winning Gates of Gold, the famous fiddlers continue their journey through the rich fiddle tradition of Shetland, Orkney, Highlands and Isles, and further afield to Cape Breton and beyond. This dynamic Scottish fiddle big band, founded in 1995 and going stronger than ever, brings to the stage massed fiddles and a slick rhythm section for a high-energy jig and reel experience with the counterpoints of haunting airs and the unique Scots musical form of the Strathspey.

(Support act) Neil Adam & Judy Turner - The Robert Louis Stevenson Project The show is a heart-warming insider's view of a largely forgotten time and place. Robert Louis Stevenson, whose classic works Treasure Island and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde have been never out of print since they were first published in the 1870s, captures the affection of audiences now just as he did then. Neil Adam's original songs have been widely played on radio and he has appeared live with Macca on his Australia All Over tours. The RLS show is built around Neil's musical arrangements of a dozen of Stevenson's more autobiographical poems. Joined by Judy Turner, the founder and recently retired Director of the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club who has been playing music with Neil for nearly 20 years.
