Biography

Jennifer Mann is a sculptor based in the Macedon Ranges who mainly creates figurative sculpture and portraiture. She works in bronze, terracotta and marble and has commissioned works on permanent public display in Melbourne and Sydney, and privately commissioned portraits in Australia and Italy.

Having sculpted since childhood, she studied Visual Arts at Monash University and languages at the University of Melbourne before attending art school in Melbourne and travelling overseas to further develop her skills. She has studied public art at the New York Studio School, portrait sculpting with the UK Society of Portrait Sculptors in London and traditional terracotta sculpting techniques in Florence, Italy. Each year she spends time in Pietrasanta, Italy, carving marble sculptures.

Since 2014 Jennifer’s passion for portrait sculpting has led her several times to the U.S. to study forensic facial reconstruction sculpting at the Forensic Anthropology Centre at Texas State University with leading expert in this field, Karen T.Taylor.

Drawing on these highly specialized skills, in 2016 she created a forensic facial reconstruction sculpture of an ancient Egyptian mummy for the University of Melbourne, named ‘Meritamun’ which is part of the permanent collection in the Harry Brookes Allen Anatomy Museum. This project was supported by the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) and the Department of Forensic Medicine, Monash University in the form of forensic expertise and it gained exceptional international recognition. https://pursuit.unimelb.edu.au/…/brought-to-life-2000-years… www.jennifermann.com.au Instagram : @jennifermannsculptor
