Either Leaving Home

Either Leaving Home

I met her way out on the sunset side of Vegas

Out where the burning desert turns to mystery

Out where the deepest recollection of pure heartbreak

Is tequila’s ancient history

As luck would have it she had just divorced her old man

She claimed they hadn’t got along for several years

Yet now that it was said and done she had been hit with

A river of uncalled for tears

She said it was a revelation

She said it cut her right down to the bone

She said everybody on this highway

Is either leaving home or going home

Now me I had been on my way to incognito

Out where nobody had a clue to who I was

My life had turned into a Fort Worth rank bull rumble

Waiting for a buzzer that would not buzz

She said it’s good when you get banged up

She said you ought to kiss the ground when you get thrown

She said everybody on this highway

Is either leaving home or going home

One starry night I took off in my El Camino

I headed back to where my roots turned rolling stone

And sitting right beside me was this angel saying

It ain’t just you who’s going home – it ain’t just you who’s going home

She said everybody has their heart break

Everybody has their mind get blown

She said “everybody on this highway

Is either leaving home -- is either leaving home -- or going home
