Cutaway

WHAT IS A CUTAWAY SHOT?

In film, a cutaway is the interruption of a continuously filmed action by inserting a view of something else. It is then followed by a cut back to the first shot, when the cutaway avoids a jump cut.

A shot in which the camera view is reframed to give the audience information that was previously outside of the camera’s view. Often used to reveal something.
