WeeklyHomework

ASSIGNMENTS:

EVERY WEEKEND FOR 9 WEEKS

This is a 9 week course. For the duration of this course students will have a photo-shoot homework assignment EACH and EVERY weekend.

OUTDOOR PHOTOGRAPHY ONLY

The photo shoots will take place OUTDOORS only.

TRAVEL

Some travel to find nice locations may be needed. If you do not have a large back yard, you will need to shoot some of the assignments outside of your backyard. As you travel throughout the 9 weeks, keep your eyes open to find interesting locations for your photoshoots. Bridges, Farms, Landscaped Areas are great places. I love Behrend, Mercyhurst, Edinboro, and the Riverside Inn. The owners At the Riverside Inn have welcomed us to their grounds as long as students are respectful to the grounds, and guests. Please stay away from outdoor events at the Riverside (such as outdoor weddings).

ASSIGNMENT INFORMATION

Students will take notes in class and have a specific requirement for each weekend's assignment. Every week will have unique requirements. All assignments will be given on Wednesday or Thursday. If a student misses class on Wednesday or Thursday, they are still responsible for the weekend photo-shoot. They can get the notes from another student in class, or go to our class website which will have the assignment with a slideshow and instructions. The link to the class website is: https://sites.google.com/site/gmhslancerart/

PHOTOS ARE DUE ON MONDAY - 200 points

I will only give points for homework photos the day they are due. Photo shoot homework will usually consist of taking 25-30 (specific requirements) photos. On Mondays the students will upload the photos and turn in a contact sheet. I will access their work, and the contact sheet will be worth 200 points.

LATE PHOTOS

If the students forget their photos at home, or do not have the photos for any other reason, and they are in school the day they are due, they WILL NOT GET THE POINTS FOR THE HOMEWORK (200 points) of the photo-shoot. They will have the opportunity to turn photos by the end of the week. Each week students will process 2 of the photos from the photo-shoot for an assignment grade. Which is worth more points than the homework grade. We will use the weekend photos the next week for the projects we will be doing in class, so if the students do not have the homework photos, they will not have anything to work on in class. Turn photos in every week, even if you do not receive the homework points. You will have the opportunity to gain points for the projects that you will create throughout the week.

LAB FEE

Reminder: There is a $20 lab fee for this class.

Please bring your cash or check into the high school office, and ask Mrs. Stawicki for a SHOP CARD for Photography Class.

Bring the Shop Card to Mrs. Hodas within 2 weeks after the beginning of the class. Keep the receipt or give it to your parents/guardians.

F.A.Q.

  • QUESTION: Why can't I get credit if I turn the photos in late?

ANSWER: Starting on Monday, we work with the photos taken on the weekend. If you do not have the photos in class, you won't have anything to work on in class.

  • QUESTION: What if I completed the assignment, however I forgot to bring in the photos on Monday? Can't I still get credit for doing the homework?

ANSWER: Unfortunately, no. We begin working with the photos on Monday, so if you do not have the photos with you in class, you will not have anything to work on. Remember, your LIFELINE to being successful in this photography class is to take photos and bring them with you to school! Note: if you did actually take the photos, bring them in on Tuesday, as long as you can edit the by the weekly deadline, you can still get the project grade, even though you will not receive the HOMEWORK POINTS (200points).

  • QUESTION: How will I get points in the class?

Monday: weekend photoshoot Photos due, in a contact sheet print: 200 points

Monday: Photoshop practice assignment: 10-100 points based on difficulty

Tuesday-Thursday : post process weekend photos: 200 points

Critique Participation: 100 weekly points

Tuesday-Thursday: camera operation, photography composition, photographer lessons:30-100points

Friday: New assignment given (absent? Access website from home for assignment)

  • QUESTION:What if the weather is REALLY bad, do I still have to do the assignment?

ANSWER: We live in Northwestern Pennsylvania, we most likely will have weekends with poor weather, we just have to accept it. You will need to watch the weather and find out what time of day will be the best day to go take the photos. Be prepared. Protect your equipment with an umbrella, a plastic bag, keep you camera in your jacket, or break your shooting time into 15 minute increments.

  • QUESTION: What if I have a really great excuse for not completing my assignment?

ANSWER: There is no acceptable excuse for not completing your assignment, however here is an excuse troubleshooting guide for problems that might arise: (see attachment)
