DIGITAL CAMERA SPECS:
QUESTION: Is there a recommended Camera for the class?
ANSWER: No. Only because so many camera brands are very comparable. I do feel that there are features that will be better than others. The higher the megapixel = the better. The higher the OPTICAL zoom = the better. Nice features are cameras that can be set to manual mode. ALSO a viewfinder along with an LCD screen is nice. Most photo sessions will be outside, and LCD screens can be hard to see when you are out in the bright sun.
QUESTION: what is better, the point and shoot or the DSLR?
ANSWER: The DSLR will give more professional results, however a point and shoot camera will suffice for the class. Students who plan to pursue photography, may want to invest in a DSLR camera. A good starter DSLR is the Nikon 5100, Nikon D90, or Canon Rebel
Top Brands: Nikon, Canon, Olympus
Next in Line: Casio, Kodak, Sony
QUESTION: may I use my phone or tablet to take pictures?
ANSWER: NO, you MUST have an actual camera, with an optical zoom lens, or DSLR
NOTE: It is POSSIBLE for photographers to use a Phone camera and have great results. However, I truly believe that a photographer needs to learn the art of photography with an actual camera. Once that is accomplished, then a camera phone can be used as an additional tool for established photographers.
