YOUR ASSIGNMENT:

Contrast Photography (watch video below)

  • 25+ photos
  • FIND an interesting SUBJECT (focus & focal point) that is in STARK CONTRAST to the background
      • WAYS TO CREATE CONTRAST:
        • refer to your notes
          1. Tonal Contrast (light and dark tones)
          2. Color Contrast (warm vs light tones ---or--- opposite colors on the color wheel)
          3. Size Contrast (small vs big---- or----- big vs small)
          4. Sharpness Contrast (one object in focus, everything else out of focus)
          5. Shape Contrast (one object is a different shape than the rest of the items in the image)
          6. Texture Contrast (one object is smooth vs rough)
  • Outdoors
  • No Flash
  • Think "minimalism" -Get Close (consider MACRO MODE)
  • Reduce Clutter
  • BE SURE that your FOCAL point (subject) is in FOCUS, set the FOCUS point!

Practice Editing

Complete Contrast 1 (version A & B) , Contrast 2, and Contrast 3

Contrast1:

begin with LEVELS, and UNSHARP MASK

then Use Dodge, Burn, Saturate, Desaturate,

SAVE AS: Contrast1-lastname

FORMAT: jpeg

Contrast2:

Apply a texture to CONTRAST2

then Remove the texture from the focal point

SAVE AS: Contrast2-lastname

FORMAT: jpeg

Contrast3:

begin with LEVELS, and UNSHARP MASK

then Use Contrast Actions from MCP Fusion

SAVE AS: Contrast3-lastname
