This weekend you are going to capture each of these compositional rules in a series of photographs. The 3 main goals for your photographs this weekend are:
- DEPTH: The photo needs to appear 3-Dimentional, NOT flat. click this link: Click Here
- CAPTURE EACH OF THE 6 COMPOSITIONAL RULES: You must use at least 1 compositional rule within each photo that you take. You will be asked to name the rule when you turn the contact sheet in.
- The Rule of Thirds
- The Rule of Odds
- Leading lines
- Pattern Interrupted
- Frames
- Foreground Anchor
3. STRONG FOCAL POINT: You must have 1 very definite focal point
AS ALWAYS:
- no flash
- outdoor photos
- daylight hours only
- minimum of 25 photos
- experiment with modes
- experiment with depth of field
- small aperture = deep Dof (landscape mode)
- large aperture = shallow Dof (portrait or macro mode)
- check exposure settings
- experiment with your white balance
- shoot on overcast days or within the open shade
- keep your back to the sun, point your camera away from from the sun (in most cases, unless you are trying to get a sun flare or silhouette effect on purpose)
- Strive to have VARIETY in your contact sheet (different subject, different angles) : Remember: Many times to create interest, we need to show elements within photo, in a way that they are not normally seen.
- Photographers LOVE diagonals (but do not tip the horizon line)
- Fill the frame
- Check all 4 corners to make sure there is no background clutter
- Remember: don't include MAN made elements unless they are your focal point, or they are related to your focal point
- Remember: our eyes go to the BRIGHTEST element first, use that to your advantage, be careful not to include a bright element that will distract from your focal point
