WORK THE SCENE ASSIGNMENT

Getting Ready:

  1. Turn the Flash OFF
  2. Set your camera to the highest quality setting: Fine

Find a vehicle that you think would be interesting to take a photo of.

  1. Work the scene.
  2. Begin taking shots. Make that interesting vechicle be your focal point. Try to make it stand out. Make sure your camera focuses on that subject. Shoot from every possible angle that you can think of. Turn the camera in both directions, shoot "wide" shoot "tall". Get down on your knee, stand up, lay down, if possible climb above the subject. Zoom in, zoom out, crop it tight, keep the angle wide. Shoot straight on, shoot at an extreme angle.

Required Shots.

  1. Shoot wide
  2. Shoot Horizontal/ wide/ landscape
  3. Shoot Tight (close)
  4. Shoot VERY Tight (extremely close) - possible MACRO mode
  5. LAY down on the ground and shoot UP
  6. Kneel down to shoot lower (pointing up)
  7. Stand Up (shoot from your eye level)
  8. Straight On (position yourself so that you are STRAIGHT on to the subject- no angles up or down)
  9. Dramatic Angle
  10. Zoom All the way OUT (full scene)
  11. Zoom ALL the way out and back yourself up (extra wide scene) CAUTION: watch for clutter or distractions

#12 OPTIONAL SHOT: TO CONSIDER: Climb high up onto something and capture a bird's eye view

Watch your background & frame edges:

Pay attention to what is in the background. Is there anything in the background that will distract from the subject, if so angle yourself so that you can make the background clean, simple and free of clutter. Also watch the edges of your frame. Did you crop something awkwardly? Is there something near the edge that is distracting?

  • SET YOUR CAMERA MODE: portrait or landscape mode
    • landscape/ small aperture = keeps all in focus (f16)
    • portrait/ large aperture = blurs the background (f2.6)
  • WHERE: outdoor photography only
  • NO FLASH: turn your FLASH off
  • COMPOSITION: use the rule of thirds, capture a FOCAL point, work your scene
  • NO CLUTTER: everything in the photo should be there for a purpose, check the background for unwanted clutter or object
  • WHERE TO STAND: keep your back to the SUN
  • OVERCAST or SHADE: Cloudy/Overcast days are best! Look for areas of open shade. Splotchy shade, where the sun is breaking the full shade is not desirable.
