Colors of Fall Assignment (not working)
This link (above) is not currently working, see below for assignemnt information
This is one of the absolutely BEST weekends to take photos in Northwest PA. It’s not hard to find a COLORFUL subject to use as your point of interest. Below are some tips to help you take some awesome pictures:
Think in terms of ELEMENTS:
For best results, take photos in the morning or afternoon, especially if the sun is shining brightly
If cloudy, your colors will “pop” more or right after the rain.
If taking a general “landscape” view, have something in the foreground (foreground anchor) to serve as an anchor
Reflections are best photographed in the early morning
Get close and take some detail shots that emphasize texture or pattern
Look at the example photos shown here and analyze them as to what makes them interesting to look at.

Color by itself is not going to be an interesting photo
Watch the light direction
Ask yourself, What am I doing to make this picture a photograph?”
THINK of the assignments we have done so far:
Get close - do you need all the background in the frame?
Don’t center, try the rule of thirds
Look for lines leading to a distinct & interesting focal point, a “C” curve, “S” curve or diagonal will add movement to your image
Use framing to make the viewer feel part of the scene
Change your point of view to add interest
Is there contrast that emphasizes the focal point
* Remember COLOR is the main emphasis of this assignment, but you must PLAN your photo in order to make something that is visually interesting. Read this sheet BEFORE you go out to take the assignment!
