ASSIGNMENTS:
This is a 9 week course. For the duration of this course students will have a photo-shoot homework assignment EACH and EVERY weekend. The photo shoots will take place OUTDOORS only. Some travel to find nice locations may be needed. Students will take notes in class and have a specific requirement for each weekend's assignment. Every week will have unique requirements. All assignments will be given on Friday. If a student misses class on Friday, they are still responsible for the weekend photo-shoot. They can get the notes from another student in class, or go to our class website which will have the assignment with a slideshow and instructions. The link to the class website is: https://sites.google.com/site/gmhslancerart/
I will only accept homework the day it is due. Photo shoot homework will usually consist of taking 25-30 (specific requirements) photos. On Mondays the students will upload the photos and turn in a contact sheet. I will access their work, and the contact sheet will be worth 200 points. If the students forget their photos at home, or do not have the photos for any other reason, and they are in school the day they are due, they WILL NOT GET THE POINTS FOR THE HOMEWORK portion (200 points) of the photo-shoot. They will have the opportunity to turn photos by the end of the week. Each week students will process 2 of the photos from the photo-shoot for an assignment grade. Which is worth more points than the homework grade. We will use the weekend photos the next week for the projects we will be doing in class, so if the students do not have the homework photos, they will not have anything to work on in class.
F.A.Q.
ANSWER: Starting on Monday, we work with the photos taken on the weekend. If you do not have the photos in class, you won't have anything to work on in class.
ANSWER: Unfortunately, no. We begin working with the photos on Monday, so if you do not have the photos with you in class, you will not have anything to work on. Remember, your LIFELINE to being successful in this photography class is to take photos and bring them with you to school! Note: if you did actually take the photos, bring them in on Tuesday, as long as you can edit the by the weekly deadline, you can still get the project grade, even though you will not receive the HOMEWORK POINTS (200points).

ANSWER: We live in Northwestern Pennsylvania, we most likely will have weekends with poor weather, we just have to accept it. You will need to watch the weather and find out what time of day will be the best day to go take the photos. Be prepared. Protect your equipment with an umbrella, a plastic bag, keep you camera in your jacket, or break your shooting time into 15 minute increments.
ANSWER: There is no acceptable excuse for not completing your assignment, however here is an excuse troubleshooting guide for problems that might arise: (see attachment) - coming soon!
ONE HOMEWORK PHOTOSHOOT PASS:
I realize that there will be times that something may come up over the weekend, and you may not be able to complete the photoshoot. For the first time ever, I will be Introducing the PHOTOSHOOT PASS. You may use this pass one time to "skip" the weekend assignment. You will, however, have an additional assignment to work on for that week.
Photo Passes CANNOT be used on:
HOW TO USE THE PASS:
MONDAY: upload the 25 practice photos into iPhoto from group shares, turn in the contact sheet, write PHOTO PASS on the top of the contact sheet.
TUESDAY-THURSDAY: research a famous photographer, and submit a synopsis of the photographer by Friday. During next week's critique, you must create a poster or digital presentation of that photographer to the class.
END OF THE WEEK: post process two of the 25 practice photos and turn them in with the other students in the class.
You will be given the 200 point homework grade for completion of the photo pass requirements!
ONLY ONE PHOTO PASS MAY BE USED PER STUDENT PER TERM!!
If you do not have to use the homework photoshoot pass, you will not have to take the FINAL EXAM!
