Nature myth

Write and illustrate a story that explains the origin of any phenomenon. Greek myths explain everything from why the sun rises and sets (Apollo and his chariot) to why seasons change (Persephone's love life) to why a spider spins a web (Arachne) to why a certain flower always faces water (Narcissus).

  • Start by deciding what you are going to explain.
  • Then imagine the conflict between mortal(s) and Greek god(s) that caused a problem. The mortal should be very special in some way (Orpheus was an amazing musician; Arachne a champion weaver), to bring him/her into conflict with a god. USE YOUR OWN GOD, if you can, since you know so much about him/her.
  • The conflict will build to a climax, won't it?
  • Make the resolution of the conflict SURPRISING: some powerful action of the God will create the new phenomenon in the world.
