Age of Reason Paper

Age of Reason paper:

This country was founded on the idea that our principles, expressed in persuasive words, matter. You can change the world by applying the power of your mind.

Look at Heather Herman. A high school sophomore, she cared about an issue and had a lasting effect. The kind of pressure she applied has convinced Ringling Brothers to stop using elephants. Or... do you remember Malala's story? Imagine taking on a multi-billion dollar corporation... that's what McKenna Pope did. Hey, what about Anthony Leanna? He figured out a way to help.... when he was only 10 years old.

Decide on an issue you care about, and on a real audience for your writing. Who could help you to change this thing that you have in mind? How? Plan on publishing in late October. Write a persuasive piece using AT LEAST FOUR of the following rhetorical strategies:

    1. Statement of Universal Principle
    2. Appeal to emotions (PERSONAL ANECDOTE)
    3. Appeal to morality or religion
    4. Catalogue
    5. hyperbole
    6. metaphor
    7. allusion
    8. Call to action (PERSONAL COMMITMENT*)

You MUST begin your paper with either # 1 or # 2, and you must end your paper with # 8. You will sign your name to this personal commitment.

*What are YOU going to do about it, personally? You can't expect other people to solve your problems for you... but you might get them to join you in your cause.
