Short Film Post Production

Post production is editing, sound design, music score, mixing, mastering and final submission of a DV NTSC Quicktime.

Editing should be seamless, continuous, rhythmic and should only include the essential parts of clips. Try to cut on movement and motion and only use what is absolutely needed. Remember to color correct and level correct along the way.

Sound design is creating sound effects and ambience that makes the audio of the film seamless. Audio is half the experience and will be treated accordingly (also for your final grade).

Music scoring is creating or finding music to help elevate mood and helps with pace. Music must be copyright free or you must have a music release signed by the artist. Releases can be found on the LDTV eboard.

Mixing is creating a level balance for dialogue, sound effects, and music. Remember you must be able to clearly hear all dialogue.

Mastering is the last step of mixing where the audio dynamic range is compressed and all levels are close to 0dB. Video levels are checked for broadcast.

Final submission must be NTSC DV Quicktime.
