Thailand --- A Moral Country?

Interested in knowing more about Thailand and her people? This is a site that asks a big question --- How moral are we Thais. In other words, I ask, is Thailand a moral country?

IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO SIMPLY BE AN AFFLUENT AND WEALTHY NATION. What's equally if not more important is one's moral integrity.

One Thai student posted that: Hello!  Aj.Janpha

I think 'Yes'.  Thai society is a moral one because Thai people believe in Buddhism. Most Thais worship Lord Buddha. Because the Buddha teaches Thai people to do good things and to not bad things.

In the past, most Thais like to go to the Buddhist temples and make merit there. Because they believe that if you make more or a lot of merit, you will get good things in this life and the next life. So, they always do a good thing. Another reason is that they fear 'sin'. However, nowadays, many Thais don't like to go to the temples. I think Thai society has become less moral. Some kill other people and they do more bad things. They do not fear the consequences of sinful actions. It is different from the past.

hello...

If it were in the past, I would agree that Thai society is a moral one. But nowadays, as I have seen from news and people and I have to rethink about it. Thai people has become less moral. The corruption, cheating, and lying seem to be regarded as normal. Lately, such things happen in every organization --- even the government --- as we can see from the news.

For one thing, being a developed state does not equal being a moral one. For the moral one required more civilized criteria and state of minds. One may wonder what those criteria are. Any attempt to lay down such criteria may be an act manifesting an act of morality.
