Artist Inspired Drawing

Artist Statement: For my midterm I had to research an artist and then I had to pick another artist that I liked and then some how make my own piece that has some connection to those two artists. My two artists were Jan Van Eyck and Banksy. I researched Jan Van Eyck and chose Banksy. I chose Banksy because they do graffiti but they are anonymous. Their work has meaning behind it that might not always be so noticable.

How I connected these two artists was Jan Van Eyck did a lot of realistic art, things happening in the moment, then Banksy did a lot of graffiti work. I spray painted the paper red and painted the rest, I also made the people silhouettes, there are 3 skateboarders and one cop with a dog.

I had a totally different idea of what I wanted. My idea was to make bricks as the background with graffiti but I accidentally screwed that up so I had to change it, now the grey lines are the bars on a jail cell. The words on the painting are the whole meaning, skateboarding is not a crime. A lot of people look at skateboarders as destructive people but they're really not.
