Sustained Investigation #1

Size 10*12

This work is called Tree Down. The idea behind this work is based my topic question of the projects, which is "What if objects go upside down?" so I used notebook spirals that the teacher almost threw away and made a upside down laying tree. This work relates to the question because the tree is upside down and that is exactly why it is related to the question. To make the tree, I think freely and was sure to make the spiral going down and spread through the base so it looks more alive like a free landing natural tree.

The work is made using spirals, a cardboard for the base and spray paint. That allows me to spray paint the tree green for the leaves instead of the white and brown for the trunk instead of maroon. I also spray painted the base black to give it an even color and some noticeable black on the tree itself but not too much, to make a shadow.

I used the elements of shape, texture and form. And I used the principle of design of balance and contrast by making the tree in the middle of the base and adding the dark color to the tree on one side to make a contrast. My project evolves from having no color to make it natural and sketched to looking like a tree and full of color. The next step creating a drawing connected to my question of the sustian investigation.
