It’s a new year at Edgewood Junior High! After spending two months on vacation it's time to go back to school. Over the summer, more teachers joined the staff and decided to start working here at EJHS. Now let's get started and learn more about some of these teachers.
One of the new English teachers for eighth grade is Ms. Shackelford. Ms. Shackelford is staying here during her first year of teaching because she graduated from Indiana University- Bloomington in December of 2025. One of the main reasons she decided to work at Edgewood was due to the fact that her supervisor for student teaching mentioned to her that he had enjoyed working with the students at EJHS, and that caused her to want to work here. Another reason was that she has had family that went to Edgewood and some that still attend school here in RBB.

Ms. Shackelford has stated that, “I can't say enough positive things about my time at EJHS so far. It is such a blessing to love my job, my team, and my students so much that it does not always feel like work.” It is great to hear that the students here have welcomed her into EJHS and made her feel comfortable as our teacher. Even though she is a teacher, we can still learn facts about her. Some of the things that she wants us to know are that she is a huge cat lady and loves all cats. She has two cats of her own who are super important to her. Additionally, her favorite season is fall, and she loves the color green! Her and her fiance got engaged over the summer with their family and she had an amazing time. Knowing things about our teachers can help us form better relationships and get to know them better.
Even though Ms. Shackleford is interesting to hear about, we still have to learn about the other new English teacher, Mrs. Richey! Mrs. Richey is a seventh-grade English teacher and was teaching for 3 years at a previous school, but this year will be her fourth! She used to work at Greenwood Middle School, but after she had her son, she decided she would like to work somewhere else, closer to home. Since she lives in the Bloomington area, she decided that this would be the perfect job opportunity for her. She graduated from Indiana University Bloomington, similar to Ms. Shakelford.

Some fun facts about Mrs. Richey are that she has four pets! She has two dogs, Rocky and Raaja, a pet cat, Rico, and a horse, Peanut! Besides her pets, she has a baby boy who's six months old, and one of the main reasons she came to Edgewood. She also doesn’t just teach English; she also teaches the creative writing class! Mrs. Richey has stated that, “I have had a great experience at Edgewood so far! The staff has been so welcoming and helpful! I really enjoy the school community as well!” It is amazing that two of our new teachers are welcomed into our school already! Our staff and students are making sure that she is one of us in our small community.
It's a new year with a fresh start. As we start to settle in, we have to remember some of our teachers are just as new to this as we are! As we introduce these teachers into our school, we get to learn more about them and their personalities.
