WE ARE EDGEWOOD! WE ARE EDGEWOOD! The Edgewood Junior High School and Edgewood High School competition cheer teams went to a state cheer competition on Saturday, November 1st, at Greenfield Central High School. The girls have had a great season. The team has expressed great appreciation towards Coach Lacie and Becca for helping both teams throughout the season!
The EHS competition cheer squad traveled to Greenfield Central High School to participate in the HCCA state competition. The Edgewood High School team placed 8th out of 19 groups. They had a large team of 30, making it a large game day routine. The girls' motions were sharp, had great synchronization, and the stunts were amazing. “It was our best performance yet! We did very well! I’m very proud of what we have accomplished this season!” states an EHS cheerleader. The girls had a great score of 87.10, making them 8th of 19 groups. First place went to Delta High School with a score of 95.40. Second place went to New Palestine High School, earning an outcome of 93.35. Yorktown High School tallied 90.75, taking home third place.
The high schools cheer routine
The Edgewood Junior High team competed at the HCCA Spirit state competition. The team did well at the state competition, but not as well as they had hoped. The competition team has 15 people in total, making it in the large junior high team division. Audrina Truax quotes, “ We did our best and performed really well! Considering we had to learn new spots 15 minutes before our bus took off, we executed it very well!” Overall, the team performed well and showed great spirit. They got 6th out of 7 (yes, 6, 7). The team's total was 70.35. Which is good, but it could be better. The team did a traditional routine, which consists of a cheer, tumbling stunts, jumps, and a dance. It normally lasts around 3 minutes; they practice for months. Getting ready for a three-minute routine. The team's overall cheer score was 30.70, their stunt score was 19.30, and their dance score was 23.60. Which added all up makes our score 73.60, but with our deductions, which were 3.25, it makes the total 70.35. The first-place team was Highland Hills Middle School. Second was Greenfield Central Junior High. Third place was Fisher's Junior High School. Fourth was Pendleton Heights Middle School. The Fifth was Mount Vernon Junior High. Sixth Edgewood Junior High School/Us. Lastly, Seventh Hanover Central Junior High School. Overall, the team did pretty well. They are proud of their work this season, and we can’t wait to see what next season brings for this Edgewood Junior High team.
The cheerleaders stunt pyramid
The junior high team concluded with getting 3.25 points deducted. The high school also ended up losing 3.00 points. The junior high squad got 3.00 points deducted for the safety of someone tripping over the competition spotters. The 0.25 deduction was in the pyramid when the bracers appeared to be holding up a flyer in the middle. The high school received a 3.00 deduction for excessive celebration, which means that the girls were engaging in chest bumps, the stanky leg, and flossing at the beginning, which the judges deemed too excessive.
In conclusion, both teams, EJHS and EHS, did very well. They may not have gotten the places they wanted, but they definitely had tough competition. Overall, both teams’ seasons went very well. They both practice for months to be prepared for their competitions. These Edgewood teams will be back next cheer competition season, and we can’t wait to see what amazing things they accomplish. Thank you to the coaches, Lacie, and Becca, for helping us learn and making this such a successful season, and thank you to the cheerleaders for putting so much effort and taking the time to work for this. Good Luck, Edgewood.
