Washing away in a flash, Camp Mistic, one of the most trusted camps in Hunt, Texas, was viciously destroyed in the flooding of the Guadalupe River on July 4th, 2025. The flooding here was devastating for many, as multiple people lost their lives in the raging waters of this river. Now they will start taking back what they once had and build a new camp by Cypress Lake in Fort Worth, Texas.
Camp Mystic is now reopening at its new location by Cypress Lake. They are in the rebuilding process and aim to open in the summer of 2026. The location was less than a mile away from the flood's original damage and did not experience damage the first time. They are rebuilding this site and making the new camp here with different safety materials and rules to keep the new camp safe.
The flood damage
This new camp has started something that CiCi Williams Stewart and Will Stewart started after their 8-year-old daughter died in the tragic flood. Still in search of Cile’s body, her parents made a new law in Texas called “Heaven's 27”; this is an act of safety laws across youth camps across the state of Texas to keep minors summer camps safe around the state of Texas.
Kids at the memorial
Heavens 27 is a memorial to the 27 kids and counselors who died in the flood. This act includes new safety training for all the camp counselors, a timed weather alert evacuation system, and the requirement that a licensed professional come and inspect the camp. This memorial is a great way to remember the people that had passed away in the flood.
Camp Mictic was one of the best camps, but it shut down because of the flood. The camp is coming back and is better than ever. Opening in the new summer of 2026, Camp Mistic is a great place to enjoy your time. Camp Mystics, a fun and exciting camp, is coming back for many years to come and even though this tragedy happened, there will be many fun days to come at Camp Mystics.
