2026 is a big year for history. First of all, it's America's 250th anniversary. Also it will be the first time in 50 years that we return to the moon's vicinity. These missions to return to space are called the Artemis missions.

The Artemis program is the program to help us try to live longer on another planet. Artemis is built to live much longer than the previous space missions like Apollo. While Artemis ll will only be built to stay for ten days but the other Artemis missions will be longer stays, NASA says. Apollo was built to stay in space for around two weeks while the Lunar Module was built for two days. The Artemis program is to help us get to mars. We won't be heading straight to mars, our first stop will be the moon.
Artemis l was an uncrewed mission that happened in November 2022. NASA says that Artemis ll will be launched no later than April 2026. That is the reason that it is still 50 years since we last went near the moon and not 3 years. NASA says that Artemis ll willAlthough Artemis ll is not going to land on the moon, it will just be orbiting the moon to gather research. The four people that will be on Artemis ll are Reid Wiseman (Commander), Victor Glover (Pilot), and Christina Koch (Mission Specialist), along with astronaut Jeremy Hansen (Mission Specialist). This Mission will have the first female and person of color on a lunar mission.

NASA says that Artemis ll is going back to the moon to gather research on how to live on another planet, because all of this is for getting us to mars. Mr. Driver, the Earth and space teacher here at EJHs, says ¨ I like why NASA is doing the Artemis mission. We're making a just in case home. But if NASA is not worried about making Earth reliable, then how will we make Mars reliable? NASA should worry about Earth and not so much Mars.¨ But the answer to this question is when will NASA make it to Mars. It is in the process of becoming a reality. There isn't a specific date set yet, except NASA thinks that they will be able to make it to mars somewhere in the late 2030s.
There are so many more details that NASA has to figure out. Maybe NASA will start new missions, maybe they won't be able to finish these missions. Who knows what their next big step will be.
