Disney’s new movie, Zootopia 2, has become extremely successful but has received mixed opinions. Zootopia 2 was recently released on November 26, 2025. It has received numerous amazing reviews as a worthy sequel to Zootopia and has been praised for its engaging story and themes. Although, on the contrary, it has also received hate for its controversial features, details, and jokes. It was an overall huge project for Disney, which took 9 years to make.
Zootopia 2 continues the story of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, who are voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman. Zootopia 2’s plot is similar to Zootopia's plot and features a buddy cop themed action-adventure movie. It follows the journey of Judy and Nick, who are trying to figure out a mystery involving a smuggled culprit and an evil family. The movie provides a comedy-themed adventure that has sudden twists and turns. Zootopia 2 has a nice ending that portrays a resolution between species (similar to Zootopia's ending).
The production of Zootopia 2, a movie with a budget of 150$ million, had many interesting additions to it, and had lots of effort put into it. The cast of the movie included many famous people. These people include Fortune Feimster (Nibbles Maplestick), Idris Elba (Chef Bogo), Andy Samberg (Pawbert Lynxley), and more. Other than famous people, during the production of the movie, lots of jokes and references were made. For example, in one of the scenes where Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are in the desert, a festival with the sign “Burning Mammal” is shown. This is an obvious reference to the Burning Man festival, which took place not too long before the movie. This reference also received backlash, as Burning Man was an adult festival. Zootopia 2 also has lots of unique characters. It has 178 unique characters representing 67 different animal species voiced by renowned actors.
Besides the production, Zootopia 2 is an amazing movie. It has fun twists and turns that continue an amazing plot. The buddy cop theme mixes well with the comedy and action-adventure, creating a unique and high-quality movie. In my opinion, it is one of the best Disney sequels and should be highly appreciated for the high quality and work that has been put into it.
Despite lots thinking it is a great sequel, Zootopia 2 has received backlash for having controversial features, and for the style of the overall movie. Sofia Babbs, a 6th grader at EJHS, states, “It was fun. There was a lot of mysteries being solved, and a couple of jokes.” She liked Zootopia 2 as a movie and thought it was funny and good. Although lots of others have thought that it was too controversial. Kerry I, a reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes, states, “More an adult humor film, too much for 4-8 year olds to handle, my 5-year-old son hid during much of it because of temperament or characters and violence.” This review, along with lots of others, thinks that Zootopia 2 has too many adult jokes and should be more of a kids' movie. Controversies like its LGBTQ+ content have also emerged.
In the end, Zootopia 2 is a great movie. It has lots of amazing actors who play unique characters. It has gone through 9 years of production and has, with that, created a storyline that is appreciated by many. Many have also thought that it pushes too much of an adult side, and that it shouldn’t. But, overall, it is a new and interesting movie.
