The Celtics have the best franchise in basketball history, and the Lakers are a close second. They were the first rivalry ever. This rivalry is the greatest of all time. There has always been someone to go against the other team. They have met in the NBA Finals 12 times. And will probably be there more times in the future.
The first time they played in the championship, the Celtics won. In the past years, the Celtics weren't that good. They had Bob Cousy. He was really good, but not enough to get them a championship. So the Celtics got Bill Russell, he turned around the team, they started to win everything, they had a really fast point guard, and now a big center. The Lakers were not a competition. But when the Lakers got Wilt Chamberlain, he was as good as Bill Russell. Now, Wilt Chamberlain was with Jerry West. Then the rivalry began. But the Celtics destroyed them. It was really big because they were both people of color when it was a big time for them.
One of the biggest rivals is Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. They played against each other in college. They even went against each other in the basketball national championship. Unfortunately, Bird lost. Larry was drafted, but still did one more year of college. He went to the Celtics. Magic eventually went to the Lakers. Magic won more championships than Bird. Larry Bird is from Indiana, French Lick. They were friends off the court.
Jason Tatum is the current best on the Celtics. The Lakers recently got Luka, who is now the best. This could be the biggest player rivalry ever. Even before Luka went to the Lakers, they were rivals. They played in the finals, and the Celtics won. But last year, Tatum got injured. Now he is close to being back and will beat Luka. Luka and Tatum are young stars who will most likely not get traded to different teams. Luka and Tatum usually guard each other in games against each other.
The Celtics-Lakers rivalry will always be big. There are good young Lakers and Celtics players. This is the best rivalry ever. No team has had a better rivalry. Every generation, there is an equal to go against. LeBron will leave soon, and the Lakers franchise will be up to Luka.
