Have you ever heard of an annual sport called Cheese Rolling? Cheese Rolling is a sport that takes place at Spring Bank Holiday in Brockworth, England every year. People who decide to participate in Cheese Rolling are definitely up for one of the most interesting experiences that they will ever have.

Cheese rolling is a sport of challenge, speed, and confidence. The hill in which this event takes place is very steep and has many obstacles in the way making it difficult to be the first one down. One participant from Germany named Tom Kopke, managed to win Cheese, Kopke Rolling for 2 years in a row, which made him one of the overall champions of Cheese Rolling. According to cnn.com Kopke said, "I risked my life for this! It's my cheese. Back to back!”
The whole goal of Cheese Rolling is to be the first person to the finish line to win the Rolling Cheese. All participants line up at the top of the hill while the cheese gets a 1 second head start reaching up to 70 mph making it difficult to catch. Due to the insanely steep hill, the sport is dangerous and could cause serious injuries due to tumbling, rolling, tripping, and flipping over while chasing the cheese.

The Cheese Rolling tradition started in the year 1826 and has stayed the same since then with very minor changes. Participants recommend strong protective clothing to ensure less damage to the body. If you do not wear clothes to protect your body, minor or even severe injury can happen when chasing a rolling cheese down a steep hill. Chris Anderson, one of the main coaches of Cheese Rolling, helps to clear the hill and prepare the event every year. According to soglos.com, Anderson says, “You've just got to be able to try and stay on your feet as long as possible and lean backwards so you can stay in control of yourself.”
So maybe later in this hot summer weather, when you find yourself sitting on the couch, doing nothing, you might consider Cheese Rolling. Who knows, maybe you will win the Rolling Cheese and beat even the best of the best!
