Stepping into the classroom for the first time is Mr. Stuckey! He isn’t just a new teacher to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders; he is also a basketball coach at the high school. Before his current role as a Pre-Algebra and Algebra teacher at EJHS, he worked at Edgewood High School as the girls’ head basketball coach. He has been doing this for 10 years and he thought at the beginning it was a job but now it means so much more to him!

Before Mr. Stuckey’s life at Edgewood, he lived North of Fort Wayne. He also has family living in Minneapolis. He says, “I do have a couple of brothers: one in Minneapolis who writes computer code for heart surgeries and another who is a salesman.” In Fort Wayne, his hometown, he usually gets less snow days then we do here in Ellettsville. That means more teaching for him!
So far, Mr. Stuckey thinks teaching has gone pretty well so far. He has been teaching other subjects before math but he has enjoyed math the most in his teaching career. He explains why he enjoys teaching math. “I have taught a few other subjects, but math is fun. You get the joy of success when you complete a problem, then you get to keep doing it again and again.” The students also like it. Cora Grant, a 6th grader taking his Pre-Algebra class, says, “I feel like he is a very chill teacher, but he makes class feel fun.” She states.
Everyone thinks that teachers go home and grade papers, but Mr. Stuckey likes a variety of things when his is not at school, but coaching consumes a significant amount of his time. Mr. Stuckey says, “I do coach at the high school. I have been coaching girls' basketball for the past 10 years, but this will be the first at Edgewood.” But when he’s not coaching at the high school, he enjoys eating pizza. One of his hobbies is bowling. He enjoys simply listening to silence, and of course, teaching. Mr. Stuckey shows that he finds great joy in sharing his knowledge of the game with his players, helping them grow both on and off the court. He loves his coaching job and working with the girls on the team.
Overall, we are all excited that Mr. Stuckey is here, and we hope he feels welcome. We are looking forward to what he will bring to our school this year. We hope that he enjoys his first year here teaching at Edgewood Junior High School. Let's all do our part to welcome him to our school. Have fun teaching here!
