Journalism is a course that has helped me in many ways and I believe would benefit everyone who participated. Journalism helps people with getting out of their shell or comfort zone by getting you comfortable with talking to people you don’t know personally for interviews. Journalism is also a career path in high school now, so if you've ever thought about doing something news related when you’re older you should take journalism. And third, it improves your research, writing, and communication skills.
Journalism can help you to be more social and get out of your shell. The class requires that you communicate with other journalists and forces you to interview people. That might seem scary to some people at first, but Mrs. Ayer will teach you how to engage in conversation and interview people of all sorts, from adults to other students. As you interview people more and more throughout the course, you will get more and more comfortable with it and the comfort will transfer into casual conversation, which will help you to connect with fellow students and teachers. Plus, in interviewing, you get to know a lot more people that you previously would have
My second reason you should take journalism is that journalism is a career path in high school due to the recent changes, so I think that it would be wise to start exploring careers as early as possible, such as journalism. The journalism class is very well designed to simulate a real news station, because it is one. All the content on our school news website Colts Chronicles is written by EJHS journalism students. This gives you a good peak into the journalism world and career path, and if you like it you can take journalism as a career path through high school.
Journalism improves a variety of other skills that will help you all throughout life. Journalism drastically improves your writing skills by gradually training you to write with professionalism. It also requires you to deeply research and investigate topics which can help you be more proficient in finding reliable sources on different subjects. It also helps with writing long essays due to the fact that you will have to write articles, basically essays, commonly. So writing essays for other classes will feel far easier.
All in all, there are several ways that taking journalism could be very beneficial to you at school. From writing skills to social interactions, taking journalism can help you through school and even throughout life. So sign up for the Journalism class with Ayer!
