Have you ever watched the NFL draft? If so, you must know that it is where all NFL stars are made, including the two fighting quarterbacks for the GOAT title, superstars Tom Brady and our Indiana Colts' Peyton Manning. And this has repeated itself for many years, with a lot of new talent and future stars who will be the future of the NFL. And this one was very interesting, and I am sure that for a lot of people, it is exciting to see all of the new players and how they progress throughout the season, including the top prospects.
Some of the top prospects of the second round
The second round starts at pick 33, featuring key players like wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling from Ole Miss to the Raiders, offensive guard Chase Bisontis from Texas A&M to the Colts, and edge rusher T.J. Parker (Clemson) to the Cardinals. Teams had seven minutes per pick in this round, which followed the first round on Thursday. Rounds 2-3 occurred on Friday, April 24, with second-round picks allowed 7 minutes each. Edge rusher Arvell Reese from Ohio State to the Giants said, "Playing defense, you've got to be violent. You've got to be thinking of doing something violent".
The draft saw most of the focus on cornerbacks, with players like Mansoor Delane who will be used for strong coverage. Many defensive players, including EDGE rushers and DTs, were mostly picked in the early second round. The Colts traded the No. 47 overall pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for picks No. 53 (Round 2), No. 135 (Round 4), and No. 237 (Round 7). The New England Patriots traded up to No. 55 to take Illinois edge rusher Gabe Jacas, giving the picks No. 63, No. 131, and No. 202 to the Chargers. Houston traded up with Las Vegas to No. 36 to select Kayden McDonald.
The second round of the NFL draft is a major source of talent and is where many legends and Pro Football Hall of Famers, arguably the best “comeback” picks outside the first round. Historically, this round has featured many stars, including Drew Brees, Rob Gronkowski, Michael Strahan, Brett Favre, and Derrick Henry. Zach Taylor, the Bengals head coach, said, "They all have a lot of upside. That's just the cleanest way I can say it... We brought them in here because we see a high ceiling — a high upside —with all of those guys".
This Information shows that next time you think that the second round of the NFL draft is just the runner-up to the first round, just know that the second round is one, if not the most important round, because of all of the unique talent and where you can find players and trade for picks that you can use to rebuild your franchise.
