Imagine winning an online reward where you barely had a chance to win, but you did. Then when you fill out the completion form to claim your reward, it says . . . . Error! Of course the one time you need your phone, you get bad internet. You might think it’s bad luck but others might disagree.
Many know the famous fast food restaurant Taco Bell, but even more know
about their all-time fan-favorite soda, Mtn. Dew Baja Blast. Whenever they first debuted in 2004, everyone loved Taco Bell for their signature drink. To celebrate this year, they were going to have a giveaway and advertise their drink. Since it’s 2024, they decided to celebrate their 20th anniversary of the drink by having what they called their 20th Baja-versary. Fans have been excited with suspense just waiting to see what Taco Bell will do to celebrate. Taco Bell finally came out and said that they were going to do what is claimed ‘one of their biggest drops yet’ on their rewards app. They were going to collaborate with the very popular Stanley water bottle brand to make an exclusive limited edition Baja-Blast Stanley!

Fans were all over this drop. It would be on the rewards app taking place on August 13 of July 2024 at 5 pm ET time. Many started to download the rewards app after the word got around. Eventually, it was well known Taco Bell was collaborating with Stanley, and the first 100 people to claim the item on their rewards app would get the free limited edition Tumbler. The first 20 of those 100 would get a year's supply worth of Baja Blast in the form of a $200 gift card. Fans were ecstatic and thought it was too good to be true. Unfortunately, they were right. Fans were waiting anxiously as 5 o’clock came and went. On the rewards app, there was a page dedicated to the drop with a link that would only be able to be used starting at 5. For some, the link never arrived, and before they could refresh, it was gone. For others, they could click the link and be told they won! They were so excited. They filled out the information form in order for them to claim and get their Stanley, but were told there was an error in the system and were unable to claim the gift. Fans were all starting to wonder what went wrong.
Soon, fans started to make conspiracy theories about what happened. Some thought it was a planned scam for publicity while others thought the internet might have gone down. The second theory was later excused after the fact that there are about 3.7 million downloads of the app. This means that everyone couldn’t have had an internet issue at the exact same time. Some claimed that when they saw the link, the word Tumblers was spelled incorrectly. One claimed on an anonymous Reddit post, “I had initially won, but when I tried to put my information in, the app brought me to an error page.” Many were complaining about this scam and mad about what Taco Bell did.
When the news spread Taco Bell and Stanley were collaborating
To summarize, Taco Bell got fans wound up over nothing while all over publicity. Taco Bell tried to get a better word out but only got worse as many can tell. Taco Bell may always be the famous fast food restaurant with the signature drink, but many will remember how they tricked us and may never see it the same again.
