Visual Display: Math Vocabulary Poster
Description: This is a vocabulary poster I created for the term “area” in my math methods class. It would be hung up in the classroom as a reminder of the definition, examples, and uses for the concept. The examples relate to real life, so that the students can make a better connection.
Rationale: Having a print rich environment, even in math class, can be beneficial to students. Everywhere students look, there should be something educational for them to see. In a math class, this still applies with the different terms and concepts. If a student is struggling to remember a term or an example, they can simply look around the room, find the poster, and be reminded of what they are looking for.
Visual Display: Ocean Animals Bulletin Board
Description: This bulletin board was created for my science methods class. It was created for a kindergarten lesson on ocean animals, where we would focus on the anatomy and identification of marine creatures. The students would have the opportunity to label the parts of the animals themselves, as they are learning the correct vocabulary.
Rationale: Not only do the students get a chance to show their newly learned skills, but they get a chance to see a visual representation of the content that they are learning. It is extremely important, especially in the younger grades, to implement visual content to aid in their learning. These visuals can help students to create schemas in their minds to help them further down the line.
