Family Involvement
On this tab you will see an image of me at Pitt-Greensburg's "Reading Under the Stars" night. At this event, kids and their families from the area were able to dress up in Halloween costumes, play games, read a book as a group, and receive a literacy bag with at-home literary activities. At this event, one of my classmates read the book Stellaluna, as it fit the Halloween theme and had a good message behind it.
It is pertinent that families become involved in their child's literacy progress, as literacy skills start at home. The more that children are exposed to reading, spelling, and letter sounds at home away from school, the more likely they are to succeed with reading at or above their grade level. That being said, something as simple as reading a book every night can make a great difference in a child's reading abilities in an educational setting.
