Intasc Standard: #2: Learning Differences
The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards.
Description of the Artifact:
This document has some examples of learning goals for a student with a learning disability from a case study. The case study listed the strengths and weaknesses of the student, and the assignment was to create 3 potential goals for the individualized education program.
Rationale:
Not every teacher will have to write an individualized education program, however, it is imperative to be able to read, follow, and add to one. As a general education teacher, not only are you responsible for monitoring your students for struggles, but you also have all their testing data to use. This data is incredibly useful in diagnosing learning disabilities. Once you have accommodations for a learning disability, the teacher must be able to sucessfully implement goals for this student to make progress. By designing assessments and content goals for a student, it is easier for them to move forward.
