In this fun and interactive class, students begin to develop communication skills through engaging stories and activities to learn about families, careers, school vocabulary, likes and dislikes, leisure activities, sports, and Spanish-speaking countries. Cultural topics include the Panama Canal, Running of the Bulls, and bullfighting. Students will read a beginner-level novel set in Colombia to build language skills and cultural awareness. Instruction will be mostly in Spanish, appropriate to the level.

This course builds on the skills and themes from Spanish I. Using Comprehensible Input strategies—including story listening, class-created stories, and podcasts—students will strengthen their communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They’ll increase their language proficiency and cultural understanding as they explore the Day of the Dead, Cinco de Mayo, and read engaging novels about Cuba and life in Costa Rica. Instruction is enriched with tools like Sr. Wooly videos and a video series about Spain, to make learning meaningful and fun. Instruction will be in Spanish, appropriate to the level.

In Honors Spanish III, interactive lessons will include conversations, language games, language videos, and more. Students will read novels that take place in Granada, Spain, and Mazatlán, Mexico, and learn a legend from each of those locations. Students will begin to produce spoken and written language appropriate to the level. The class is conducted in Spanish as appropriate for the level.

Students listen to podcasts by native Spanish speakers to learn about legends, survival skills and more. Communication skills improve as students engage in spontaneous conversations prompted by student interest and current events in Latin America.

The course explores the rich cultures, foods, and histories of Argentina and the Dominican Republic, with in-depth studies that bring these countries to life. Students listen to podcasts by native Spanish speakers from around the world and discuss current events in Latin America. Legends from Latin America and Spain introduce students to storytelling traditions, while videos and conversations about the supernatural and common fears spark curiosity and discussion. This course offers a dynamic and immersive experience to deepen understanding and fluency.
