Broadcast Journalism - Grades 10, 11, 12

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and practices of broadcast journalism. Students will explore the role of journalists and gain hands-on experience in news writing, reporting, interviewing, and production. Through practical assignments, students will craft compelling broadcast stories and present news in a clear, ethical, and engaging manner.
Emphasis will be placed on developing professional communication skills, understanding newsroom operations, and adapting traditional journalism techniques to modern multimedia platforms. By the end of the course, students will have produced several short broadcast segments demonstrating their ability to inform, engage, and connect with audiences.
This counts as an ELA elective credit.
Broadcast Journalism II- Grades 11, 12

This advanced-level course is designed for students who have previously completed a semester of Broadcast Journalism and seek to refine their reporting, writing, and production skills for television and other digital platforms. Students will produce professional-quality broadcast news stories for the Cougar Media News show, apply advanced reporting, writing, and editing techniques across multiple platforms, and demonstrate mastery of on-camera performance, voice delivery, and live reporting. Students will work collaboratively to conceive, report, write, shoot, and edit news packages that meet industry broadcast standards.
This course counts as a general elective credit and not as an English elective credit.
