This class further refines students' skills in safety, manipulation of wood, and the engineering design process. Students will be challenged to design a unique wood-based product, create a mock-up of their design, produce their product, and evaluate the final work. Areas of study will include the engineering design process, wood species identification, wood selection, figuring of cost, wood machining, wood joinery, fasteners, and wood finishing. Woodturning will be introduced in this class and students will have the opportunity to turn several items including a pen or mechanical pencil.

110051 Engineering Design Through Wood Materials Il - Grades 10, 11, 12

This class is for students who have done well in the first level wood working class and want to continue to hone their craft and are considering a career path involving forms of woodworking or education. This course will run concurrently with Engineering Design Through Wood Materials I and students will aid level 1 students as lab assistants, along with completing proposed projects. Students will propose projects ot the instructor that are: school appropriate, push the limits of the student's ability, can be completed based on a set time frame, and can be done with the tools available in the lab.
