College in the High School/Dual Enrollment/Early Graduation
Palmyra Area School District Board Policy #217 (Graduation Requirements) provides students with opportunities to attend college on a part-time basis as a junior or senior or graduate early from high school.
College in the High School
Palmyra Area High School, in conjunction with Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) and Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, offers courses in which students earn college credit while satisfying the requirements for a high school diploma. These courses take place at Palmyra Area High School, and are instructed by Palmyra Area High School teachers. Students will be billed directly by the corresponding institutions. Students are responsible for all costs associated with college enrollment including tuition, materials, and any additional fees. Students are encouraged to check with their prospective college/university if the credits will transfer. Students may enroll in any CHS course without being required to take the course for college credit.
Pre-Requisites: Juniors or Seniors with a 3.0 Cumulative GPA, placement tests may be required to determine eligibility of participating in the CHS program.

Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment allows high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credit at local area colleges, at a reduced tuition rate. Students meet their high school graduation requirements while allowing them to get a jumpstart on their post-secondary education. Students are responsible for all costs associated with college enrollment including tuition, materials, transportation, and any additional fees. Students are encouraged to check with their prospective college/university if the credits will transfer.
Pre-Requisites: Juniors or Seniors with a 3.0 Cumulative GPA, placement tests may be required to determine eligibility of participating in dual enrollment courses.
Students wishing to participate in these off campus, or online concurrent college enrollment opportunities should discuss procedures and expectations with their counselors.
Early Graduation (Graduation in 3.5 Years)
Students who complete 37 credits (including the required credits in each of the content areas) are eligible to graduate at the end of the first semester of their senior year. This can be accomplished by students completing two additional credits, at their own cost and on their own time, prior to the end of the first semester of their senior year. Students who wish to graduate early must plan carefully and closely consult with their school counselor to ensure all required course work is completed successfully and that appropriate deadlines are met. With this option, students are considered high school graduates and are eligible to apply for and potentially receive federal financial aid for college contingent upon meeting state and federal deadlines for financial aid. Students who graduate after the first semester may still attend the Prom but may not participate on athletic teams during the second semester. Students should consult with their school counselor if interested in the Early Graduation option.
