Psychology will introduce students to the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. The focus of this course is on the scientific principles that govern the areas of: biological basis of behavior, sleep and dreaming, stress and health, learning, memory, personality, psychological disorders and therapy, mental wellbeing, individual differences, and social psychology. Attention will be paid throughout the course to the research methodologies and ways in which psychologists systematically and scientifically gather and analyze data to form conclusions about human behavior.

Advanced Placement Psychology is designed as a rigorous curriculum that provides an overview of the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. Students will be exposed to the principles, past and current research studies, and enduring issues associated with major subfields within psychology, including the brain and nervous system, thinking, sleeping and dreaming, personality and diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders among other topics. This course views psychology as a science that utilizes the scientific method, and various labs and demonstrations will use scientific and critical thinking in accordance with the methods of the discipline of psychology. Significant reading and student work will be required outside of class time. The course provides the opportunity for students to receive college credit by taking the A.P. Psychology Exam.
