Students will gain basic knowledge of kitchen safety, tools and utensils, meal planning and consumerism. Students will have hands-on experiences in a lab setting implementing basic food preparation techniques. This class will also delve into the world of fruits, vegetables, grains, and eggs. Students will learn many aspects of these important foods, as well as work with them using basic preparation techniques in the food's labs. Students will see that nutrition can be delicious and fun.

This class is for those curious about food and culture in other parts of the world. Students will build on their Foods I skills, while they learn about The cuisine from areas like Europe and Asia, discovering what makes each place unique as well as what they have in common. Labs will utilize traditional tools, ingredients, and dishes from distant and perhaps unfamiliar places.

050060 Foods III - Grades 10, 11, 12

We will utilize the skills and knowledge obtained in Foods I & Foods II to further explore celebratory aspects of food. This is a very hands-on class in which food becomes the medium for our creative focus. Students will learn various techniques for turning everyday food items into works of art. We will look at plating and garnishing as well as entertaining. Students should have access to a digital camera (available in the library).
Some project supplies are at the student's expense.
