I Have a Dream Analysis Essay
This assignment was a followup assignment based on our lesson of the I Have a Dream speech. In our lesson, we were tasked to analyze the speech and determine the rhetorical appeals and figurative language used throughout the speech. Using our findings, we had to form an essay that discusses what appeals were used in the speech with evidence and reasoning. The thesis statement of my essay states, "Throughout the speech, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. appeals to pathos and logos in an attempt to drive people together to fight for the end of racial injustice." For the pathos section of the essay, I identified figurative language used by Dr. King, Jr. and I identified allusions and facts for logos. I then explained how the evidence effectively persuades the audience. Overall, my essay was strong as I presented a clear thesis with related evidence, supported by strong reasoning. Some flaws, however, in my essay were some grammatical errors that I will be sure to improve on. This essay was one of my best essays that I will be using as an example for future assignments.
Born a Crime Study Questions (Chapter 1 "Run")
This assignment was based on our reading of Born a Crime. Born a Crime is an autobiographical comedy book written by Trevor Noah that covers stories from his childhood, living in South Africa as a mixed person. After reading Chapter 1, "Run," we were given a series of questions about the chapter. These questions were mainly about identifying uses of figurative language and figuring out the tone of the chapter. Overall, my answers to these questions were that the author uses these stories to introduce the personalities of his mother in a humorous tone. My answers were clearly stated as they were done with thoughtfulness, completeness, and formal spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
