Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam - Glow
This assignment is a reflection task about a documentary that we watched in class about the Vietnam War. The documentary, Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam, was an hour and a half long video that tells the stories of the American soldiers that fought in the Vietnam War. The highlight of the documentary was the letters that were sent from the soldiers to home, which gives an insight of how soldiers felt about the war. In my reflection, I pointed out the shift in the soldiers' feelings towards the war as time went on as it stood out to me the most. I also made a connection between the student protests that circulated during the time of the war to the current student protests against the Israel-Hamas war, as it gave me a better understanding on the history of student protests. Overall, this reflection allowed me to reflect on what I have learned in the documentary as it gave me a deeper understanding of the Vietnam War.
Greensboro Sit-In Poster/Flyer
This assignment covers the topic of a strategy used in the Civil Rights Movement, which are sit-ins. The overall question that we wanted to understand was what the impact of the Greensboro sit-in protest was and how non-violent protests were effective in the movement. To present our understanding on sit-in protests, we were tasked to create a poster as if we were hosting a protest in the Civil Rights Movement. The overall graphics as well as the relevance were successful in the flyer, however, all the required elements were not there. The location that I set the sit-in protest did not fit the standards of the assignment and my approach was not best as I basically advertised for students to get jail time. I would do these things differently to improve the flyer, however, these mistakes will allow me to consider them in my future assignments.
