Genocide Paper - Glow
For this assignment, we were tasked to write a research paper on a chosen genocide topic. This assignment took about two weeks, with class time and our own time. Immense researching and note taking was done for this research paper, so it has given me a greater understanding of the overall topic of genocide. The genocide that I have chosen to do research on was the genocide in the Central African Republic. My structure of the essay began with explaining what genocides are and how they are perceived by the United Nations. I then went on to explain how the genocide started with some background information. The one thing, however, that we needed to include was how the US and UN responded to this genocide. Based on my scoring, I can say that this research paper was a success as I have thoroughly given an explanation about my chosen genocide, meeting all the requirements. Proper research was also done. What I would have done differently, though, is the use of my grammar and mechanics as it does need a little more improvement.
Korean War Narrative - Grow
For this assignment, we were tasked to write a narrative as if we were in 1953, as an advisor to President Eisenhower. We had just finished our learning of the Cold War, as we then moved on to the topic of the Korean War. We needed to write a letter to advise President Eisenhower on whether to engage China in war or take action to end U.S. involvement in Korea. I chose to center the topic of taking action to end the U.S. involvement, using evidence from the given documents. My structure of the letter starts off with a brief overview of the Cold War, leading to the historical context of the Korean War, then giving my advice. My narrative was not unsuccessful, however, it could have been better. I used data from the polling documents but it did not fully bolster my position as I could have used better evidence. My strengths in introducing my position were shown, however, I need to improve my persuasion skills.
