Submit An Assignment with Turnitin

How to Submit an Assignment that Requires Turnitin

Turnitin is a Moodle Assignment feature that checks for the originality of student work. If this feature is enabled by a faculty member for an assignment, it will compare a submitted paper against text found in a number of sources. Sources include a database of previously submitted papers, the internet, as well as published journals, periodicals, and publications.

Once a paper has been processed by Turnitin, the system will generate a similarity report that will be accessible to both the user and the faculty member. The similarity report generates a percentage score indicating how much of the text was found in other sources. The percentage score is not a grade.

Questions about the similarity report and the impact on course grading should be directed to the faculty member teaching the course.

Step 13: When a report is available, the submitted file will display a Turnitin ID and a blue percentage icon. Click the percentage icon to access the similarity report.

Interpreting the Similarity Report

The Turnitin similarity report displays instances where the submitted documents were found to be similar to a database or repository. This score does not necessarily indicate academic dishonesty has occurred. The report features can be used to help faculty and students to review.
