Resources for Video Assignments

There are various ways to record, edit, and upload a video for course assignments. This page offers some resources  that are available for students at Nazareth University when faculty assign video projects in their courses. 


Simple Recording Tools

Students have access to various recording tools through Nazareth University or their personal computers. Below are some of the free recording options available to students.

Recording using Zoom: Open a meeting with just you, click record, and then choose "Record to Computer." Once your video has been recorded on Zoom, you can save it to your Google Drive - if you have a question about how to record, check out Zoom Support and our Zoom Student Support Page!

ScreenCastify: ScreenCastify is a free Google Chrome extension that will allow you to make videos of your screen (screencast) or of yourself. The file will save on your computer to allow for editing, or in Google Drive, depending on your preference.

Another option is to create videos using your phone and then upload the files to Google Drive or YouTube.

Video Editing Tools

Students have access to various editing tools through Nazareth University or their personal computers. Below are some of the editing options available to students.

Youtube: Youtube has a simple editing tool that allows for trimming and minor editing. For more information on editing videos in YouTube, check out this guide on editing.

Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe Premiere): Adobe Premiere is an advanced video editor that is available on all campus lab computers with the use of your MyNaz credentials.

i-Movie: i-Movie is another advanced editor that available in campus Mac Labs (GAC 44, GAC 60).

Check out the Media Editing Lab in the basement of the Library (Rm 131): In this room, students have access to both Mac and Desktop computers complete with a variety of audio and video editing formats. The lab is not staffed; operating hours are the same as the Library.

Storing and Sharing Videos 

We recommend that students save audio and video recordings on either Google Drive or Youtube since, as a Nazareth University student, you have unlimited storage available through the Google Applications for Education suite.

Storing/Sharing Videos on YouTube: Once your video has been recorded, you can upload the video to YouTube. it is easy to share an unlisted link with faculty and/or other students in a course. Pro tip: YouTube share links automatically embed the video anywhere there are posted in Moodle!

Storing Videos on Google Drive: Once your video has been recorded, you can export it to your Google Drive to share it with faculty and upload it to your Drive . When sharing a video from your Google Drive, you must change the sharing settings to "allow anyone with the link" to view the video.

Submitting Video Projects in Moodle

Students are limited in the size of the file that can be uploaded as part of an assignment. In order avoid issues with file-size limits, it is recommended that students host video files in another platform and submit the file as a shareable link (see above for instructions). 

Submitting Videos:  Video hosted in YouTube or Google Drive can be submitted by sharing a link in a Moodle assignment activity

Important Note: Video submission requirements will vary by course and instructor. If you are unsure, always ask faculty for clarification!
