• Though the student attempts to justify the materials to be used for manufacture, the justification is incomplete and is not convincing enough. In order to improve score, the student should have provided more sources to justify her use of materials, and written more as well.

• The student's diagrams and instructions do not give enough instruction for an independent third party to recreate the parabolic device. This would be mostly rectified if the orthographic projection had specific dimensions and the instructions were more detailed.

• The construction plan template was not used. This template is given by the IB and should be used for this strand. As this template or any similar templates were not used, this strand seems to not be addressed at all.

I would rate this strand low or even lower than low as the work does not reach a standard described in the rubric.

Overall + Comparison

The IBO sample Criteria C is better than the NBPS Criteria C.

• The IBO sample was given a 5/9 for their Criteria C, while I gave the NBPS student a 3/9.
• The IBO sample was better as it justified the materials and production methods better.
• The IBO sample was better as the details for manufacture provided were of better quality and were more descriptive. There is a much higher probability that a third party would be able to build the IBO product than the NBPS product.
• The IBO sample was better as the construction template was included and filled in well while the NBPS criteria omitted this section entirely.
