This week was a very good week for me, in terms of productivity. I would have to rate this week one of my higher in terms of efficiency. I met with my teacher Mr. Moss, who recommended to me that I should streamline my whole design. FIrst, I made the whole structure a lot smaller, and I laser cut the new design so it looked clean. I laser cut the holes in the right place so the two gears are being pushed together. The gears are a bit harder to spin, but this has led to the gears meshing perfectly. I have added a crossbar to hold the walls of the structure together, and my next idea is to add straws to the shafts of the gears so that I can later add supports(craft sticks) that will further hold these in place. I did this with my last design and it worked great. I would also like to create a method of motorizing the shafts, which includes creating a stand for the motor and a reliable way of connecting the toy motor and the shaft.

My work for the week.
The new structure with the small gear on the dowel. Notice the small size of the new structure.
The second gear attached. The gears are very firmly attached, which leads to the gears being stable.
Crossbar for support of the new structure
Comparison between the old system and the new system. Notice the difference in size, and therefore efficiency. I believe that the new design is much cleaner and much more streamlined.
