My ideal wallet. I would describe this as a traditional style wallet.
Olivia's Wallet is her ID because she drives a lot and often has to show her ID.
Olivia's Wallet is her lock box because she has a lot of credit/debit/gift cards and cash on her at all times.

Sizing of backing of individuals slots with vinyl
Creation of individual slots for credit cards. People I surveyed said that vinyl is too smooth.
Cardboard backing for new wallet
Backing can fit a card very well
One side of the wallet. Room for 4 credit/debit/gift cards.
After finding that vinyl is too smooth for the user, I thought duct tape would have a more "leathery" feel
Other side of the wallet. There is a clear ID slot and there is room for cash or a card
Aerial view of the wallet. All of the pockets are clearly outlined
Clear ID slot with school ID

The wallet Olivia made for me. It is exactly what I wanted.
I thought that this project has taught me a lot about the design thinking process and how to cater to the consumer's desires. This is my first making project in IB and I am already seeing the emphasis on explanation of thought and methodology and the design process and I think it is amazing. I have already learned so much more about how to apply my skills in the "real world" in one week than I have in months or years.
My first wallet that I created was definitely not the same wallet I gave to her at the end of this project. They were different in terms of material used and durability. My first designs were made out of vinyl. This wallet has no structural support and was very "slippery". I changed my material to duct tape with a cardboard backing and both of these issues reduced dramatically. If I had time for another iteration of the prototype, I would try to refine the design a bit more and a few more pockets because Olivia wanted to fit as many cards as possible in a compact wallet design.
Though the wallets were different in terms of original materials, the end product was very close to the ideal drawing. The wallet Olivia gave me was very similar to my ideal drawing, and the wallet I gave her was very close as well.
The Nueva Design Process is a very methodical project approach that the students have to use more often. I like it because it made me go through all the steps: consumer interview, consumer requirements, when and why consumers would use this wallet, and then and only then the sketching and prototyping process. Many(including me in the past) would have found simple requirements and then started prototyping immediately.
