I'm happy with my work from trimester 1, and I believe I am able to proceed onto larger and harder projects in trimester 2.
1. The first project I would like to complete is the DNA Helix Lamp. This project is an easy/medium project and would be a great addition to the fab lab. The frame/solid inner parts are going to be 3D printed and the actual lamp itself will be controlled with arduino circuitry. This is a 2 for 1. I will be able to apply my 3D printing and arduino skills in a practical sense.
2. The second project is a little strange. In a sense, it is not a project at all. As a reader may know from my about page, I am part of both the engineering department(fab lab) and the robotics department(robotics) at school. The robotics teams frequently need specialized parts printed quickly, and I have been the "go to person" to do so. This takes up a significant amount of my time in my period 0 class, so Mr. Moss has told me to include as a "project" and include it in my weekly blog posts to properly account for my time. I am doing this "project" alongside the DNA Helix Lamp.
3. The second project I want to do is the Raspberry Pi Weather station. I have never attempted a project that utilizes a Raspberry Pi. I think that this is a valuable skillset I will be able to glean from completing this project. This is a B Rated project and has enormous applications in the real world and in the fab lab.
4. The third project I wish to complete is the solar powered wi-fi station. I am one of those kids who ask "How will this help us in real life?" when learning a new concept. That is why I always try to link everything to a real-world applications when explaining or documenting my work in my weekly blog. I think that a solar powered wi-fi station will be a great project to complete as I have never worked with solar panels before and utilizing the power from these and linking to a mini wi-fi router will be a fun exercise. Also, this is a low cost, yet invaluable technology that could benefit millions and billions of people in underprivileged parts of the world. This is a medium rated project.
