Dear Summerside Eagle Families,
We hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving holiday with a chance to slow down and enjoy family and friends. We focused on learning, leading, and succeeding at Summerside as all returned ready to take on these three weeks with intentional sights on student goals and progress!
Students in grades 2 - 5 began taking their iReady benchmark winter assessments in ELA and Math with some taking them in the weeks to come. These assessments help us monitor your child's academic progress since the start of the school year. Look for communication of specific assessment days from your homeroom teacher and be sure to ask your child to share their growth and progress as many students were excited to share how far they have come with their reading and math skills. The results of these assessments will be shared in January once we collect Acadience benchmark data to continue to guide our partnership in meeting your child's academic needs together.
We encourage all to continue to read nightly as that makes a HUGE difference in fostering independence, leading all to our Portrait of a Graduate outcomes. A book makes a great present too! Here's to slowing down the next two weeks because we all know they will fly by in a flash!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe

Updated for today's Eagle Insight!
We are working to fill food baskets for Summerside families this holiday season! Thank you to all who have already donated and here's to a successful food drive this week!
We are excited to welcome our second-grade families to join us this Thursday, December 7th at 6:00 pm in the Summerside gym for a special performance of The Polar Express!
Mrs. Hardy has been working hard in music class to lead our second graders in preparing for an outstanding evening filled with Polar Express music and fun. All are welcome to attend our holiday program that evening.
Second graders are to arrive at 5:30 pm when the doors open. Seating is first come, first serve and we ask that you do not reserve seats as we anticipate a full house.
Cell Phones and Smartwatches
We are noticing many Summerside students are bringing cell phones and/or Smartwatches to school and using these devices during school hours. Please be aware that using a Smartwatch, cell phone, or other personal communication devices during school hours is prohibited, per West Clermont School Board Policy. The usage of devices during school hours is distracting to all learners; please remind your child to reach out to their teacher if they need assistance or need to communicate with you during the school day.
A Notice From Heidi Sandlin, District Nurse
As the weather turns colder, we are reminded that we have entered cold and flu season. The following tips can help you protect yourself and others and help prevent the spread of germs.
Avoid close contact.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
Stay home when you are sick.
If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. This will help prevent spreading your illness to others.
Cover your mouth and nose.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick. Flu viruses spread mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk.
Clean your hands.
Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Germs can be spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
Practice other good health habits.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

West Clermont 'Focus on Facilities' Town Hall Series
At our next series of Town Halls, we will be turning our focus to the school buildings in West Clermont. During these Town Hall events, we will examine the changing needs in facilities as well as the challenges of aging buildings, limited space, and the need for modern learning environments for our students. Through the Town Hall process, we will establish a Community Advisory Team that will assist the district in the formation of a Master Facilities Plan that is educationally-appropriate, financially responsible, and community-supported.
