Dear Summerside Eagle Families,
Our week was filled with many ways for our students to continue to take great care of themselves, others, and Summerside. You can ask your child about our safety drills that we practice routinely and how they respond when they hear an alarm, what they do to make sure they are safe. More than 20 students received dental care from the HealthSource of Ohio Mobile Dental team. They will be back in February for cleanings and evaluations, see below for how to sign your child up. All students are busy writing, recording their thoughts from what they have read to show what they know and comprehend. You can ask your child what they have read about lately and what they have written about it too. See below for a few kindergarten writing samples to celebrate.
January is National School Board Appreciation Month. We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated school board in the West Clermont School District with members who are committed to fostering excellence with every learner, every day, every way! Together, we are on the RISE and the members of our school board are the leaders of our efforts to learn, lead, and succeed! Be sure to thank them if you get the chance as we are certainly thankful for them!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe

We encourage all students to learn about how they can impact the world around them through their leadership in how they take care of themselves, others, and Summerside. Classrooms spent time honoring and learning about the importance of the impact that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. continues to have in our daily lives as we work to create excellence in every learner by using a calm, consistent, and caring approach in a safe and welcoming environment every day, in every way.
We encourage all to take time on Monday, January 15, to learn more and serve others to continue to bring us all together.
A reminder that students will go outside for recess as long as the surface conditions are deemed safe and the temperature (including wind chill) feels like 28 degrees or warmer. Please be certain your child is wearing a coat and is dressed appropriately to go outside to have some fun, get fresh air, and exercise! Be sure to write their name on their belongings in the event that it gets dropped or lost. Our lost and found is filling up so if your child is missing something, be sure to remind them to look there at lunchtime to try to find it! If your child is in need of a winter coat, please let us know as we can connect you with local resources to help keep them warm. You can call the front office, 513-947-7900, or reach out to Lisa Sheffey, Sheffey_l@my.westcler.org.

District Update - Wednesday, January 10, 2024
(For an archive of all of our previous District Updates, visit the WolfPack Hub at westcler.org/hub)
Change in 2023-24 District Calendar
At Monday evening's meeting, the Board of Education approved an adjustment to the district calendar for this spring. These changes were made in order to accommodate the date of the primary election in Ohio as well as the solar eclipse in April.
Specifically, those changes are:
March 19, 2024 - Students will not attend school
April 8, 2024 - Students will not attend school
May 7, 2024 - Students will attend school
You can download the updated version on the district website, on the WolfPack Hub, or by clicking here.
Why were these changes made? When the 2023-24 district calendar was adopted, Ohio had not yet announced the date of the 2024 primary election. We now know that election day is March 19th. May 7th was earmarked as a Professional Learning Day. In order to ensure student safety with voting taking place in many of our schools, we have moved the May 7th Professional Learning Day to March 19th. In addition, on April 8, 2024, Southwest Ohio will experience a partial solar eclipse. The timing of the eclipse unfortunately aligns with the dismissal of several elementary schools and our high school, posing risks for student drivers, bus drivers and elementary-aged students getting on and off buses. In the interest of student safety, we have changed this day to a Professional Learning Day for staff only.
Our WC Hometown Heroes Alumni Event
Calling all alumni from Amelia HS, Glen Este HS, and West Clermont HS that are veterans, active military personnel, first responders, school employees, or healthcare professionals! Join us on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 1 PM at West Clermont High School for a complimentary lunch, tours of WCHS, bounce houses for the kids, a chance to reconnect with classmates, and a recognition ceremony in the competition gym! You'll also receive free admission to the boys varsity basketball game at 3 PM! West Clermont 'Focus on Facilities' Town Hall Series
Our final 'Focus on Facilities' Town Hall is January 18, 2024 at 6 PM at West Clermont Middle School. During this event, we will examine the changing needs in facilities as well as the challenges of aging buildings, limited space, and the need for modern learning environments for our students. Through the Town Hall process, we will establish a Community Advisory Team that will assist the district in the formation of a Master Facilities Plan that is educationally-appropriate, financially responsible, and community-supported. Make sure your voice is heard! Seating is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot here!
