Dear Summerside Eagle Families,
Thank you for sharing your children with us, they are truly gifts to us and this world and we are honored to be a part of their lives this school year! We are so grateful for our partnership in ensuring that your children grow socially, emotionally, academically, creatively, and in so many other ways, all leading to our portrait of a graduate outcomes.
See below for insight into so many celebrations and so much fun throughout this past week. Our PTO parents were busy organizing, honoring, and serving the Summerstride prizes all week long - wrapping up with our Principal for the day, leading the way along with his Assistant Principal! Students continued to be engaged in learning and leading opportunities all week long and always. You can ask your third grader about how multiplication and division help one another in solving problems in math. Our fourth graders took a trip to the Taft Theater to see a Children's Theater production this week. Be sure to ask about their experience in such an iconic historical setting as their imaginations were whisked away into Narnia adventures!
This will be the last Summerside Eagle Update of the 2023 year. School resumes on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, and our parent updates will resume that week. In the meantime, we hope you all have a wonderful holiday, filled with many opportunities to simply relax, be with your family and friends, and enjoy winter break routines. Here's to a Happy New Year together!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe

SPIRIT WEEK
Cell Phones and Smartwatches
We are noticing many Summerside students are bringing cell phones and/or Smartwatches to school and using these devices during school hours. Please be aware that using a Smartwatch, cell phone, or other personal communication devices during school hours is prohibited, per West Clermont School Board Policy. The usage of devices during school hours is distracting to all learners; please remind your child to reach out to their teacher if they need assistance or need to communicate with you during the school day.
A Notice From Heidi Sandlin, District Nurse
As the weather turns colder, we are reminded that we have entered cold and flu season. The following tips can help you protect yourself and others and help prevent the spread of germs.
Avoid close contact.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
Stay home when you are sick.
If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. This will help prevent spreading your illness to others.
Cover your mouth and nose.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick. Flu viruses spread mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk.
Clean your hands.
Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Germs can be spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
Practice other good health habits.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

Winter Weather and School Closings
As we move into wintertime, it is important for everyone to be prepared in the event we would have to close our schools due to weather issues. We encourage you to check out the article on our website entitled, "How Emergency Weather Decisions Are Made in West Clermont."
West Clermont 'Focus on Facilities' Town Hall Series
At our next series of Town Halls, we will be turning our focus to the school buildings in West Clermont. During these Town Hall events, we will examine the changing needs in facilities as well as the challenges of aging buildings, limited space, and the need for modern learning environments for our students. Through the Town Hall process, we will establish a Community Advisory Team that will assist the district in the formation of a Master Facilities Plan that is educationally-appropriate, financially responsible, and community-supported. Make sure your voice is heard! Join us on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at West Clermont Middle School (1341Clough Pike, Batavia, OH 45103). The Town Hall will begin at 6 PM. Seating is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot here!
